Mini Session vs Full Photoshoot in Costa del Sol: Which One is Right for You?
You’ve decided you want photos. Great. Now you’re staring at two options: a mini session or a full photoshoot. You have absolutely no idea which one to pick.
Don’t worry. By the end of this, you’ll know exactly which one is for you.
I’m Justina, a photographer based in Marbella, and I shoot couples, families, and individuals across the Costa del Sol. I offer both options, and honestly? The right choice depends entirely on what you’re here for, not on which one sounds better.
Let’s break it down.
What Is a Mini Session in Costa del Sol?
A mini session is a short, focused photoshoot: typically 30 minutes, one location, and a curated set of final images.
It’s designed for people who want beautiful photos without a full half-day commitment. Think of it as the concentrated version. We skip straight to the good stuff, work fast, and leave with exactly what you came for.
A mini session works best when:
You’re visiting Costa del Sol and want to document the trip properly
You want a few stunning photos without a huge time investment
You’re a couple, individual, or small family with a clear idea of what you want
You’ve been photographed before and you’re comfortable in front of a camera
You want beautiful photos at a more accessible price point
What you get: A tight, intentional set of images from one location. Usually golden hour, because that light on the Costa del Sol is genuinely world-class and we’d be crazy not to use it.
What Is a Full Photoshoot?
A full photoshoot is a longer session, typically one hour or more, across multiple locations, with a bigger final gallery and a lot more room to breathe.
This is where the real magic happens. More time means more variety, more genuine moments, and more of a chance to truly relax into it. People who say they’re awkward in front of a camera almost always leave a full session saying it was one of the best days of their trip. There’s just more space for that to happen.
A full photoshoot works best when:
You want a variety of photos across different settings or looks
You’re a bit camera shy and need time to warm up (most people do)
You’re a family with young kids (more time means less pressure)
You want the experience itself to be part of the value
You’re celebrating something and want it to feel like an event, not a quick stop
What you get: A fuller gallery, multiple locations, more variety. And an afternoon you’ll actually remember, not just photos from it.
The Honest Difference: It’s About Time, Not Quality
Here’s something I want to be upfront about: the quality of the photos is the same regardless of which option you choose. The editing style, the locations, the approach. All identical. A mini session isn’t a lower-quality version of a full shoot. It’s a shorter one.
The difference is time. And what time gives you.
More time means more relaxed. More relaxed means more natural. More natural means better photos. That’s the real equation.
If you’re someone who needs 20 minutes just to stop thinking about the camera, a mini session might feel rushed. If you’re someone who jumps in front of cameras without a second thought, 30 minutes is genuinely enough.
Know yourself. Pick accordingly.
Which One Should You Book in Costa del Sol?
Here’s a quick guide:
Book a mini session if:
You’re on holiday and want a couple of hours free for other things
You have a clear vision and you know you’ll relax quickly
You want photos at a specific location (Marbella old town, the beach, the port) without a big production
Book a full photoshoot if:
You’ve said the words “I hate photos” at any point in the last year
You’re a family with kids under 8 (trust me, you need the extra time)
You want to explore a few different spots across Costa del Sol
You want the experience to feel like an adventure, not a task
You’re doing engagement or couple photos and you want variety
Still not sure? Send me an inquiry and tell me what you’re imagining. I’ll tell you exactly which option fits. No sales pitch, just an honest answer.
Where Do Mini Sessions and Full Shoots Happen in Costa del Sol?
Both options happen across the Costa del Sol, from Marbella and Estepona to Málaga, Nerja, and Tarifa. Location is part of the magic here: the light, the landscapes, the golden hour that makes every shot look like it belongs in a magazine.
For mini sessions, I usually recommend one iconic location: the old town in Marbella, the beach at Estepona, or a golden hour hillside spot with views over the Mediterranean.
For full sessions, we can move across two or three locations, each with a different mood. Start with architecture, end with the sea. Start in the shade, finish in the golden light. The Costa del Sol gives us a lot to work with.
What About Pricing?
Both mini sessions and full photoshoots are designed to be accessible without compromising on quality. You can find full pricing details on my home page. If you have questions, just ask. I’m not one of those photographers who makes you fill out a form just to find out what things cost.
70% of my clients customise their package anyway. So even if you’re not sure which box you fit in, an inquiry is always the right first step.
