You booked the shoot. You’re feeling good. The date’s locked in, the location is dreamy, and now your brain is spiraling into full-on decision fatigue.
What should I wear? Do I need professional makeup? What if I mess this up and spend the whole shoot awkwardly adjusting my outfit?
Pause. Breathe. Let’s talk it out.
As a photographer in Marbella and Malaga, I’ve seen it all — from red carpet-ready gowns to beachy barefoot elegance. And the truth? The most impactful photos aren’t about perfect styling. They’re about how you feel in what you’re wearing. If you feel like you, the camera’s going to love you.
Start with the feeling
Forget Pinterest for a second. Close your eyes and picture how you want to feel during your shoot. Confident? Elegant? Effortlessly cool? That vibe should lead your outfit decision.
Comfort doesn’t mean sloppy. It means you’re not pulling at your top every two minutes or regretting tight jeans halfway through golden hour. It means you can breathe, move, laugh—and look incredible doing it.
Subtle always wins (unless you’re bold, then go bold)
Soft neutrals, earthy tones, cozy textures—they photograph beautifully, especially against Marbella’s whitewashed streets or Malaga’s golden beaches. But if your personality is more “flowy red dress at sunset”? Go for it. We’ll make it work and then some.
Skip neon, heavy logos, and outfits that scream “this looked better on the hanger.” If you’re doing a couple shoot, think about balance, not matching. You’re a team, not a uniform.
Makeup: pro or nah?
Look, I’m not here to tell you what to do with your face—but hear me out.
The camera sees things your bathroom mirror doesn’t. And a polished, photo-friendly version of your usual makeup (read: natural skin tone, a little definition around the eyes, a soft lip) goes a long way.
If makeup stresses you out or you tend to go rogue with eyeshadow when you’re nervous, booking a makeup artist might be worth it. It’s not about full glam. It’s about feeling put-together without overthinking it.
Also, maybe skip the high-SPF foundation unless you like unexpected shine. Just trust me.
A quick story to prove a point
One of my clients packed a breezy white dress last minute “just in case,” thinking she wouldn’t wear it. She ended up barefoot in the dunes outside Marbella, hair wild from the wind, completely unplanned.
Those photos? Absolute magic. She looked like herself—unfiltered, radiant, and fully in the moment. That’s the energy we’re aiming for.
What about the guys?
Keep it clean and classic. Soft layers, natural fabrics, good shoes (please, no gym sneakers). A plain tee, button-down, rolled sleeves. That’s it. That’s the vibe.
